Origami for blind

The Multiform base

Looks like a square with the square base folded in each quadrant of the original paper. The multiform base is based on a 90 degree grid and is thought of as European. Multiforms are a series of simple forms or models that easily transform to each other, often used in storytelling.

Folding

The front of the paper faces you.

Blintz and blintz again

  1. Start with the inside colour in front.
  2. Blintz as described, then return to here.
  3. The four centre-folded flaps should be in front.
  4. Blintz again as described, then return to here. The fold lines coincide with one of the precreases.
  5. In the front, four multi-layer triangular flaps meet at the centre. On the back, four single-layer square flaps meet at the centre. Some may recognise this as the fortune teller right before it is opened.

Rearrange the layers

We need all the flaps on the same side.

  1. Unfold. The side where the original paper corners were at the centre, should be down.
  2. The centre of each quadrant point upwards.
  3. Pop them down. The middle of each edge will rise upwards.
  4. Push the middle of the edges to the centre, using a precrease.
  5. The corners will rise towards you, forming vertical pockets.
  6. Open the pockets and squash them flat.
  7. The model is square, with a smooth back. In the front are four squares that meet with open corners at the centre. Below the squares is a layer of large triangles that meet at the centre. The triangles have two layers, and the top layer has a slit down the middle. If you cut the multiform along the medians, you would have four square bases.
